Explorer’s Pro-Tips: Smooth Travels in Peru
How to save 18% on your stay (Tax Exemption):
Did you know foreign tourists don’t have to pay the 18% local tax (IGV) at hotels? To make this happen, just follow these steps:
- Keep your original passport handy. Ensure you get your entry seal when passing through Immigration at the airport.
- Show both at the hotel front desk during check-in.
- Friendly reminder: If these documents aren’t presented, the hotel is legally required to charge the 18% tax, and we wouldn’t want that to surprise you!
- Traveling by land? Don’t skip the stamp! 🚌
If you are entering Peru by land (from Ecuador, Bolivia, or Chile), please make sure to stop at the border migration office to get your official entry seal in your passport or DNI. Without this stamp, hotels cannot apply the 18% tax exemption, and they will be required to charge you the extra tax. Don’t let a missing stamp ruin your budget—stay sharp at the border!

- Health First (Yellow Fever Vaccine):
If your next stop after Peru is Brazil or Venezuela, the Yellow Fever vaccine is a must! Make sure to have your international vaccination certificate ready. While we are here to guide you, please remember that staying up to date with vaccine requirements and visas is each traveler’s own responsibility.
Stay Protected:
We always want you to have the best time. That’s why we strongly recommend getting Travel Insurance to cover any unexpected changes, health needs, or flight delays. Better to have it and not need it!
